Apple's online store has posted that the white iPhone 4 model is unavailable for pre-order or in-store pickup on June 24th when the new device is expected to launch in the U.S.
The disappointing news began to surface on Monday evening with chatter from AT&T stores. The wireless carrier began informing customers they would not be taking pre-orders for the white iPhone 4 model beginning on Tuesday.
The iPhone 4 "no show" drama was initially thought to be limited only to re-sellers, but that wishful thinking was instantly killed when Apple started their own pre-order process early Tuesday morning offering iPhone 4 only in black. Qualifying customers can expect to pay $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB.
Some iPhone faithful indicated in dozens of emails we've received, that they intend to snag the black model at launch and then exchange the device for a white one within 30 days of purchase. I'm not certain that plan is a solid path to redemption, since Apple has not yet announced when "old Whitey" will make a formal appearance.
"This totally blows," said longtime Apple enthusiast Elam Nikserof, "I'm bitterly disappointed in Apple's FAIL launch! I will wait for the white phone. No settling for me."
With Apple's white model being omitted from the offering, initial sales of the fantastical new video phone could be stunted when iPhone 4 hits stores on June 24th. It's still too early to speculate how millions of iPhone faithful will respond to this shocking revelation.
Apple has not yet offered up an official excuse for the lack of "old Whitey". For now, it's obvious that black is the new white. "This changes everything. Again".

Oh, god, the tears of laughter... But fear not, White iPhone fans: as a good friend of mine said, your super-absorbent white iPhone with wings will be available before you know it.
