After months of leaks and endless media speculation, it appears Apple is finally ready to reveal iPhone 5 at an event being held on Tuesday, October 4, according to a report by AllThingsD. Expect the company's new CEO Tim Cook to be headlining the much anticipated coming out party for Apple's newest iPhone.
The Wall Street Journal tech blog cites that this event will be Tim Cook's first public product introduction since formally taking over the reigns as Apple's big dog on campus after Steve Jobs announced his retirement on August 24, 2011. Apple stock has been on a run lately closing today at $412.14 after hitting a new 52 week high of $422.86 on Tuesday.
"The pressure will be on Cook to turn in a good performance at the event," writes John Paczkowski for AllThingsD, "especially after what has so far been a very smooth leadership transition at Apple."
The only dangling detail left in this story is seeing the official invitation from Apple that typically gets sent to media outlets about one week before their scheduled events. That invitation will seal October 4th as the big day for iPhone 5 along with offering up an official start time and location. I'm betting on 10 A.M. PST at Apple's Cupertino campus.
I've been holding out for a new iPhone from Apple since publishing my disappointment in the early days of iPhone 4, when I returned my handset for a full refund. Which puts me well clear of my AT&T contract by now. But that was way back when.
Ready or not people... here comes iPhone 5.
