Behind a shroud of secrecy and tight security, hundreds of VIPs attended a private memorial service for Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at Stanford University's Memorial Church in Palo Alto, Calif. around dusk on Sunday.
The long list of guests included Google Inc. CEO Larry Page, media mogul Rupert Murdoch, former Vice President Al Gore, actor Tim Allen and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel according to reports. Others seen entering the grounds were U2 singer Bono, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Maria Shriver. Bono was reported to have performed at the event, reading lyrics from an iPad.
The Wall Street Journal reported dozens of people flocking down a sidewalk lined with candles leading from the 1,200-seat Memorial Church to a museum, where a reception in honor of the visionary behind the iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Macintosh computers was being held at the conclusion of the service.
Mr. Jobs was buried on October 8th at an undisclosed location during a family-only ceremony. He died at the age of 56 on October 5th succumbing to a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Today's memorial precedes another that will be held on Wednesday, October 19, for Apple employees.
