Late Tuesday night Flipboard Inc., launched a fully optimized iPhone version of their personal magazine app that's been a wildly popular staple for iPad users since April 2010.
Shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday the Flipboard team tweeted a message informing followers that service was currently down and posted a similar update to their Inside Flipboard blog. After launching the app on my own iPad this morning, all media indicates "No content".
"Due to high demand, Flipboard is experiencing service issues. We are currently working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation. We have turned off account creation for now to restore the service and ensure existing users have a great experience. Please follow us on Twitter @Flipboard for updates as the day progresses. We apologize deeply for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
The company has not revealed specific details surrounding the downed service which appears to be the result of an unknown number of new iPhone users accessing the app. Flipboard is truly a game changing app that will have iPhone users feeling as giddy as school girls once service is finally restored.
I preview all of my own social media and news across the web using Flipboard via iPad several times per day. I certainly hope that service returns to normal sooner than later. If you happen to be reading this post on Flipboard... consider it good news.
Updated 11 a.m. PST: "Existing Flipboard users for iPhone and iPad should still be able to enjoy their Flipboard. For new users trying for the first time to set up their Flipboard on iPhone, there is a server load issue that we are working on right now. Please try again later today."
