Verizon Wireless has quickly reversed their decision to charge a $2 monthly "convenience fee" to customers who choose to use a debit or credit card to pay their wireless bills by phone or online. The monthly fee which was set to go into affect on January 15th, sparked angry protests from Verizon customers across the Web.
"Verizon Wireless has decided it will not institute the fee for online or telephone single payments that was announced earlier this week" Verizon wrote to customers.
"The company made the decision in response to customer feedback about the plan, which was designed to improve the efficiency of those transactions."
Verizon's sudden reversal may be closely tied to today's announcement by The F.C.C. that it would look into the new fee. That's when the wireless giant hit the eject button on their plan although their statement claims the move was in response to customer feedback.
"On behalf of American consumers, we’re concerned about Verizon’s actions and are looking into the matter," the F.C.C. statement said.
Whatever the real reason may be, the ridiculous single payment fee idea has now been officially killed. There's just nothing better than bringing change one angry mob at a time. Now Verizon customers can truly have a happy new year.
