It was a virtual turkey shoot of Instagram photos on Thanksgiving day — with “over 10 million photos that mentioned Thanksgiving-themed words” posted by Instgrammers. Over 2.2 million of those images came in under the hashtag #thanksgiving.
Obsessing on photos of food is nothing new for the social photo-sharing juggernaugt — but during several peak hours on Thanksgiving day users were uploading more than 200 photos per second which doubled in number from the day before.
Many users were ticked off on Wednesday after Reuters reported that Facebook Inc is planning to “combine user data with that of recently acquired photo-sharing service Instagram” which the social networking giant snatched up for $715 million back in October.
“The change could open the door for Facebook to build unified profiles of its users that include people's personal data from its social network and from Instagram.” Reuters wrote.
The hashtag #facebooksucks only has 5,775 images which means that most hardcore Instagram fanatics may not have gotten news of merging profiles just yet.
