Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am has officially launched his new iPhone accessory which the musician claims “will turbo charge iPhones to become a camera with interchangeable lenses.”
Once docked inside the device, iPhone's current 8-megapixel camera will converted into a 14-megapixel lens — dramatically enhancing the clarity and definition of your photographs.
The i.am+ iPhone dock will ship with interchangeable lenses, an adjustable built-in flash and on-board photo editing features that allow users to apply real-time filters, edit pictures or add captions on the fly.
Built-in filters and sharing options are aimed at competing with Instagram by using a companion app that the celebrity calls “a social photo experience” — with proprietary iam+ user profiles expected to play a larger role once the camera goes on sale.
Limited product images reveal two models — the clunky black C.4 “Modern Look” for $318 USD or the fancier V.4 “Vintage Look” with gold trim and a slide-out keyboard that will cost roughly $479 USD.
“You dock your phone into our device and it turns you
smartphone into a genius-phone. We take over the camera.” Wil.i.am told The Telegraph.
The official iam+ website also features an image of a retro looking black and silver model that's not been mentioned by Will.i.am in the press.
Little else has been revealed about this pricey snap-on camera dock — like image samples, a look at online user profile pages or if the device will be available for iPhone 5 in addition to iPhone 4 models at launch.
I'm not convinced that iPhoneography buffs will be rushing out to grab this gaudy iPhone accessory that comes with a premium price tag attached.
A launch date for the iam+ camera which is fully supported by an Apple development license, is set for December 6th — but for now this little "rock star inspired" gadget will be for sale exclusively at Selfridges according to The Telegraph.
