By 4:00 PM on Monday, China Unicom had already taken over 100,000 online pre-orders for iPhone 5 launching in China on December 14 — which Apple announced would come to the country's second-largest wireless carrier late last week.
China Unicom did not charge customers upfront for the flood of pre-orders, instead the carrier required ID card data and other personal information in order to reserve a device online.
“Meanwhile, China Telecom, which began selling Apple’s smartphone on its network earlier this year with the release of the iPhone 4S, reportedly received 5,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 5 on Sunday.” according to The Next Web.
Apple officially announced the iPhone 5 gold train will be rolling into 54 new countries this month including China, Venezuela, Israel, Brazil and beginning in South Korea on December 7.
