The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Wednesday night included a keynote from Steve Ballmer, showcasing three new Slate PC form factors, as Microsoft's CEO made a desperate attempt to upstage Apple's iSlate tablet computer announcement. Apple's tablet device is expected to be unveiled at their special January 27th media event at the Yerba Buena Center.
The lion's share of attention was focused on Hewlett-Packard's Slate PC prototype expected to roll out in Q4 this year, costing as much as a mobile phone. Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" book cover may have been used as a veiled dig tossed out at Apple, but it should also serve to grab Amazon's attention as competition for the Kindle.
The only bad news delivered by Microsoft's Buzz Killington is that all three devices will be powered by Windows 7. Ballmer just had to ruin it!
What Hewlett-Packard has failed to mention publicly is that it's also working on another tablet/slate computer running on Android. You know, the OS by Google. Yep!
