"Zunebadass" 80 GB Black Zune
It did not take the Zune army long to mobilize it's members against Steve Jobs who took a sarcastic swipe at the Microsoft Zune community in a high profile CNBC interview last week with Jim Goldman. The interview took place immediately after Jobs concluded his Macworld keynote address while he was still floating from the ether of Apple's MacBook Air. Even though Jobs' remarks about Zune were only a tiny blip on the radar of an otherwise typical Macworld recap, Zune fanatics are bent on serving up fresh baked humble pie to El Jobso.
"I told Jobs that I had sat down with Microsoft's Robbie Bach last week at the Consumer Electronics Show, said Jim Goldman, I mentioned that Bach was particularly optimistic about the new Zune, that it was now a worthy alternative to Apple's iPod. Asked Jobs: "Was he inebriated? Do you even know anyone who owns a Zune?" Source: CNBC
"Do you know anyone who owns a Zune?" It's that explosive question that
sparked a virtual brown out for Zuners who call themselves active
members of a vibrant Zune scene. Microsoft claims that over a million Zunes have been sold.
"I've seen about 15 people walking around my school with Zunes, old and new," said Jacob Wurt, a Zune forum member, "That's a pretty good number in a school of 3,500 mostly trend following iPod dumb asses."
So who does own a Zune media player? Who are these rabid Zune-iacs?
When we asked, we got the answer! Admittedly, the photos we have posted
represent an extremely small sampling of Zune owners who responded, but we're hoping
that more Zune socialites will send in their photos once they witness
the courage of their comrades who chose to take the lead.
To all Zune zombies everywhere, this your your informal invitation to stand up with your Zune in hand and be counted as one of the few, proud Zuneies. This is a call to pry your fingers off those squircles and answer Jobs with a mighty roar. Here I am Steve... I'm a Zune owner damn it! I'm convinced Steve Jobs is well aware that someday we will live in a world where the iPod can rest peacefully side-by-side next to a discontinued Zune paperweight. Until that time it will continue to be farkin' war!
Bon Appétit Steve. [more photos]

I get around, and I've only seen one, the newer (non-brown one.. I think the "HD" model?) in a store, on display. I was like, "whoa! a zune!" Interface didn't look too shabby, but I doubt it was a true HD-res display. Nothing against the Zune, it's just... why bother, you know?

Since 2008, I've only met only two people that have owned Zunes. I have nothing against the Zune, but isn't it time to give up

Apple has the advantage of being first to market with many of the cool little electronic gadgets that we all love. This gives them a huge leg up on all competitors, even a giant like Microsoft. Name recognition is #1 in advertising/sales. Even if your product is vastly superior it is hard to beat.

The difference is that Windows is not a universally chosen product among consumers, the computers are. Microsoft dominates through the hardware vendor channel, not through sales of its own product like Apple does. If both companies ONLY sold their OS as retail box versions, and all computer hardware was shipped OS-less and compatible with both, then there would be a real comparison between the two.

I love it how mac users say "ipods dominate sales" when it comes to portable media, but when it comes to the desktop/notebook market and apple's 7% or so market share isn't a factor.
Zune 80 > iPod Classic--and its not close.
